Search For The Gold Boot 2012

The Premier League season is just around the corner. After the 2011 EPL Season offered us 1,063 goals in 380 matches, what is there to expect? The answer is a lot. After a tight finish to the race for the Golden Boot, Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez finished atop the standing with 20 a piece. Not far behind trailed Robin van Persie with 18. So that brings us to our question, who will lead the pack next season to the boot?

Dimitar Berbatov

Joint Premier League Golden Boot winner. After a spectacular goalscoring season, many uneducated fans would assume he would be in the running for a second title. However, with the emergence of Mexican star striker, Javier Hernandez, and an in form Wayne Rooney, the outlook for Berbatov is minimal playing time at best.

Carloz Tevez

Carlos Tevez has a knack for scoring goals..you have to admit that. Much like Berbatov though, his goalscoring future is not bright...for the Premier League at least. Many trade rumors have been circling around the Argentine striker.  He was quoted as saying, "I'm never going back to Manchester..." So I wouldn't place my money on Tevez being re-crowned.

 Robin van Persie

The Dutchman provided 18 goals last season..he only played in 25 of 38 games. Pretty efficient scoring. Placing your bets on van Persie seems like a logical decision. His only problem is the injury bug. His entire career has been plagued by injury. Barring no injury, van Persie has great chances to be top scorer of the league.

Who else?

Of course the leading scorers of the league have to be taken into account, who else is there? Many names can be thrown around including Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Didier Drogba, Peter Odemwingie, and many others. Of course there will be the dark horse. Which goalscorer will come out of nowhere to shock the league?

The Red Triumvirate

On Saturday's matchup with West Ham United, Sir Alex Ferguson made the adjustment of putting both Chicharito and Berbatov in along with Rooney. Moments after this change was made, all hell broke loose. Wayne Rooney landed a hat-trick with three goals within 14 minutes. Chicharito also added a fourth goal in the 84th minute.

That brings us to the question...should this triumvirate be used more often? This group was used against a relegation zone West Ham United; however, some fans believe it may work against tougher opponents with the same success.

Berbatov the leading European Premier League goalscorer (20), Chicharito (11), and Rooney (10) are a heck of a force on the pitch at different times all with the ability to create many opportunities for themselves and teammates. Together they could have the ability to put on a goalscoring clinic consitstantly.

Would you want to see this triumvirate more often?
No? Well this is all we have to say about that...

Rooney's Return?

Been so busy lately, even missed the Manchester United game yesterday! I'm sure you have saw or heard of the Wayne Rooney goal against Manchester City already. Not only did it prove to be the winner, it was also spectacular.

It was very similar to my previous favorite goal of the season from Dimitar Berbatov against Liverpool. The big question now arrives. Is this Wayne Rooney's return? Is he going to earn all the money he's pulling in? I'm sure this goal with leave confidence surging through him. Hopefully Berbatov and Rooney can continue pouring in the goals and bringing in some hardware.

The Berb Is The Word - Choppy Photoshop Edition

The Berb is in fact the word. Carlos Tevez even admires the Berb. The Berb is calm and collective while Tevez fantasizes being like the Berb. The Berb doesn't have an ego, even though he knows, that everyone know, that the Berb is the word.

That's all I have to say.

The Berb Is The Word!

There's many reasons I like Berbatov. Obviously the first as a new soccer fan, he scored goals when I watched my first matches. As I learned more and more about soccer; however, he's more than a goalscorer. Everything Berbatov does and is supposed to do, he does it perfectly. He's not hot-headed or arrogant. After he is assisted for a goal, he goes directly over to his teammate to thank him. After winning the Bulgarian Football of the year for the 7th time, he asked people to stop voting for him. Why? Because he wants the youth to win it

I could go on and on citing reasons Berbatov has proved he is a good guy, and why he's a great player. However, most people will still refuse to give into the Berb, even United fans. When will people realize he's great, and is just going to keep getting better?

Everyone know that the Berb is the word.

College Players of The Season!

Hello! I just tweeted my candidates for POY in College Basketball. If you aren't following me on twitter..doit.(twitter.com/theluxsports) I've decided I'd do it for all the sports I follow pretty actively. :P Today's post will just be about NCAAB and NCAAF however. I'll probably do soccer next, and then NBA and NFL.

Men's College Basketball in case you aren't a twitter user.

Kemba Walker (Connecticut) Kemba Walker has sparked a top 5 ranking for the UCONN Huskies after a mediocre season last year; and he's putting up huge stats!

                                                           NCAA College Football
Cameron Newton. Well you probably knew I'd choose this one. He went from being basically a no name at the beginning of the season to being a super star and drama star all at the same time. Despite being investigated, he still put up efficient stats and led his Auburn team to an undefeated season and national championship.

The Lux Sports: Super Bowl XLV Predictions

As I'm sure you already know, this year's super bowl will be a battle between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers! The game will be held Sunday, February 6, at 6:30 pm EST.

The Packers will be coming off a win against a tough Chicago Bears team; and the Steelers with a win against a shocking Jets team.

I wasn't cheering for either of these teams from the beginning; and to be honest, my back-up and my back-up back-up were put out as well. I'm a Packers fan for this Super Bowl now. It brings me back to the days of playing as the Packers and running the ball with Ahman Green on Madden 04. : D

After all the back story, and reminiscence of the good times....here's my prediction:
Pittsburgh Steelers: 24
Green Bay Packers: 27

Bias? Yes. My opinion? Yes. The correct outcome? Yes.

Oregon's Flashy Basketball Court

Oregon has a new basketball court. Some will like it, most will hate it. It's old news that they were getting this court, however, now there has been a game played on it. People over the world complained via twitter and other internet sites about a glare inducing headaches. I like the idea of the woods in the court, however it's very blinding and distracting.

When Oregon finally gets use to played on this floor, it WILL be the definition of home court advantage. :D
But hey, it may have already grown on them. The Oregon men's basketball team defeated USC  68-62.

2010 College Football Images of The Season

I'll start out by saying this is a great video. All the most memorable and dramatic events of the season, the hardest hits, the craziest plays, off the field troubles are all put into the video played on ESPN. I love watching highlight videos, and naturally this one is going on to my favorites list.

ESPN also released a video called, College Football Images of The Decade. That's probably my favorite video ever. Y'all should look it up! I posted this one because it's more recent!

TCU Laughs Last!

Image from Yahoo.
As most of you have already read, Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee was quoted as saying,
"I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day."
"So I think until a university runs through that gantlet that there's some reason to believe that they not be the best teams to be in the big ballgame."
He was referring mainly to teams such as Boise State and Texas Christian University. TCU recently won the prestigious Rose Bowl game over Ohio State's conference foe Wisconsin. To rub this win over President Gee, billboards were purchased in Columbus, Ohio(Ohio State). Signed, Little Sisters of The Poor!

Sucking Fun Out of College Football

Hello! As most of you college football fans have noticed excessive celebrations are becoming a more common thing. While I understand while the rule is in place, college football officials and rule makers need to step back and think about what they are calling excessive celebration or unsportsmanlike conduct.  According to ESPN announcers, excessive celebration is called when a player brings attention to himself.

Syracuse vs. Kansas State. The game was tight, and Kansas State was looking for the come from behind win. At the 1:08 mark of the video, Kansas State receiver, Adrian Hilburn, catches a pass and scores a touchdown. As he ran into the end zone, he dropped the ball and saluted the crowd. It was now a two-point game. K-State could go for the two-point conversion and send this one into overtime. Instead, one of the refs launched the yellow flag for excessive celebration. So instead of having the two-point conversion at the 3 yard line(a very manageable play), it was forced 15 yards back to the 18 yard line(pretty damn hard).

The call was absolutely ridiculous, and the fact that it came as such a crucial point in the game makes it even more frivolous. To combat the suggestion that it was just these refs, a Syracuse receiver throws the diamond sign up earlier in the game (the :20 mark). What's the difference between these two actions? What do you think should be done?

Celebrating after big plays is part of the magic of sports. However, the NCAA is trying to put that spark out the of the beautiful game.

Best EPL Goal

Hello! For my first blog post, I'm going to post my person favorite goal for the EPL this season! Eventually I will post a top 10 list when I have time to research into some of other teams goals! If you have some suggestions post them in the comment sections please! I will definitely check them out!

Dimitar Berbatov vs. Liverpool - September 19, 2010

This incredible goal from Bulgarian striker, Dimitar Berbatov deserves all the praise I give it. Berbatov gets no respect, yet he dishes out fabulous goals such as the one above on a regular basis.
